For the past five years, the Recording Academy has partnered with IBM and Watson to deliver key insights in real time about GRAMMY artists on screen during their pre-show, red carpet events. IBM Watson uses AI technology to generate artist insights which are overlaid during the livestream on GRAMMY.com and collected on the artist page.

This year IBM wanted to leverage Watson Moments branding to inform the design language of GRAMMY insights with IBM Watson’s live stream widget and artist page.

Watson Moments

Motion and animated elements are central to Watson Moments’ visual expression. Color transitions communicate AI’s activity, gathering information and processing relevant evidence. Watson Moments colors blend and pulse to draw the user’s attention.

Process

I translated the color transitions from Watson Moments into the GRAMMY Insights with Watson livestream banner. We tied this together with my teammate’s designs for the artist page to create a cohesive and holistic visual style. Usage of consistent color and motion creates a connection between the livestream and artist pages, linking viewers to music profiles and stories.
